Stage directions — private notch cues.

Wrap a line in *asterisks* to mark it as a stage direction in HeyNotch.

Example · Streamdown
*Pause. Eye contact. Don't fill the silence.*
Syntax: *stage direction*

Sometimes the most important part of a script is the bit you don't say out loud. 'Pause here.' 'Smile.' 'Wait for them to finish.'

Stage directions appear in the notch dim and italic. You see them, internalise them, then deliver the next real line — no audience ever knows they were there.

Dim by default

Lower opacity than spoken text — never confused mid-call.

Italic + softened

Italics signal 'not for speaking' instantly.

Inline anywhere

Drop them between any two lines, inside a branch, or at the start.

Real-world examples

Streamdown scripts you can copy.

Drop these straight into the HeyNotch editor. They're production-tested, branched, and ready to personalise with your variables.

Discovery call with cues

Stage directions remind you when to pause, when to listen, and when to smile.

Tell me about your current process.

*Pause. Eye contact. Don't fill the silence.*

<!-- pause:2s -->

*Lean in slightly. Show interest.*

So if I'm hearing you right —
the bottleneck is {{pain_point}}.

*Wait. Let them confirm or correct.*

Common questions

Will my audience see them?

No. Stage directions live only inside the notch overlay on your screen.

Can I make them brighter?

Yes — adjust 'stage direction opacity' in Notch → Typography.

Multiple in a row?

Yes. Stack as many as you want.
